Janisson Baradon champagne

What have we been drinking?

What have we been drinking? Over the weekend we popped our last bottle Janisson Baradon et Fils Brut Premier Cru. If you’ve ever visited Epernay, you might have come across their swish boutique located between the city center and the Avenue de Champagne.

You won’t find the Brut Premier Cru listed on their website anymore. That’s because it’s just been re-branded as the Brut Sélection. The Champagne is a 50:50 blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

The blend of the two grape varieties is spot-on. The liveliness and acidity of Chardonnay has been toned down and the taste is a pleasing marriage of red fruit and light citrus with a touch of green apples. The taste is more like vintage champagne than regular non-vintage. This is probably due to them using 30% reserve wines in the blend which is a nice touch.

It’s become a bit of a tradition of ours when we take a stroll around the garden of the Hotel de Ville in Epernay to have a picnic next to the pond and open a bottle of excellent Janisson Baradon champagne. Why not take a bottle on your next picnic?

We’ll let you know soon what we have been drinking.
