Visiting Epernay champagne houses

Day 2 Epernay champagne houses

Day 2 Epernay champagne houses. It was a beautiful morning, and after breakfast, we drove to Epernay to visit Champagne Mercier. This is the home of the largest champagne barrel ever made. We managed to make a train tour through part of the original 80km long wine cellar. The cellar contains a bizarre but unique exhibition of riddling. Impressed, we bought a bottle of vintage Mercier 2006 which can only be bought at the champagne house.

Being hot and hungry after the champagne tour we walked to the Hotel de Ville. It is our annual tradition to have picnic next to the fountain. While munching on a selection of delicacies bought in a local farmers market, and drinking Janisson Baradon champagne 🥂🍾 triathletes began to run a loop through the park and I was quietly admiring their athletic bodies 🙈

I refused to rush drinking the champagne. This resulted in us having to then run like triathletes to catch our 2pm tour around Champagne de Castellane. In the end, it was all worth it because the view from the top of the de Castellane tower and later degustation were well worth it 🥳

It’s such fun visiting Epernay champagne houses, no matter how many times you visit, you will always discover something new.
