Cote de Sezanne

Day 4 Cote de Sezanne

Day 4 Cote de Sezanne. It’s only 10am and it is already really hot in the Cote de Sezanne. We began driving to our first visit. We had such a fun time yesterday on day 3 on the Cote des Blancs. Michael has read all about Champagne Yveline Prat and is keen to visit their cellars in Vert-Toulon.

When we arrived, we were met by Yveline who called her daughter Aurélia who speaks immaculate English. One of the first champagnes we tried was the standard “assemblage” style of rose. This is made by adding Pinot Noir red fine, to the champagne. Michael does not usually like that style of rose and much prefers rose “saignee”. This style of rose is made by pressing the skin of red grapes just enough to give a rose tint to the grape juice. Yet, we both loved Yveline’s assemblage rose so much, it is so fresh and drinkable, and we could not resist buying a box.

It was funny to hear that they renamed their Prat label to Georges De La Chapelle for export. This was done prevent confusion with the English connotation of the name Prat👏🏻. We spent a happy three hours visiting and highly recommend their champagne.

It was a wonderful windless day and I got tempted again by the balloon ride in Epernay. Passing through the Montmort-Lucy we turned once again towards Epernay. I became excited seeing the balloon in the air and rushed to get us tickets. What a shock to hear that they wouldn’t fly anymore because the wind was picking up. That flight we saw was already the last flight of the Day!

So close, yet so far….it was too hot in Epernay, so we drove south to the Cote de Bars.

The lovely Champagne Yves Jacope cheered us up and after a pleasant tasting, we developed a craving for dinner so headed back to the beautiful city of Sezanne.

I can’t wait to tell you what we are going to do on Day 5.
